Okay for two months now folks have been “Googlin’ “ hard in search of the damn date this huge annually held picnic is being held that my good friends over at MIH Ventures does! You would think folks NEVER ate barbecued food before in their life! Well get the napkins ready cause guess what? I know exactly when it’s going down. Yes, “Heatwave 9.0″ (the 9th one as you can see based on the title) will be (drum roll please…) Sunday, July 19th this year. From what I know, it’ll be held in the SAME location it’s held EVERY year, which is the first big lawn in Prospect Park (Flatbush/BK library enterance).

Almost a year later and I still can’t believe the comments about trash. It is like certain people look for opportunities to spit their hatred. There was a lot of trash, but when do you leave that conversation and start calling people animals, pigs, referring to the park as a ghetto, Katrina? That’s wild. YOU PEOPLE, should just show your true feelings all the time, because YOU PEOPLE make a bad situation worse. Clearly, there was a lot of trash left over, but the fact that it was left by Black people… that’s why YOU PEOPLE are that mad. I don’t expect to see any of YOU PEOPLE in the park during this event… trust that your ignorance would smell worse than the trash.
I just moved from Flatbush to Clevland for a couple months,Im dyeing to get back to Brooklyn can you please let me know when the MIH BBQ for 2010 is??
Will you be making tons of noise, violating park policy, and leave the park a total mess as you did last year? You will be photographed and videotaped this year. At least three newspapers will be on scene to document your violations.
The copious amount of trash was not the only issue. There was also a great deal of noise, late into the night, on a night when people have to get up for work the next day. It’s got nothing to do with race, it has to do with treating public property with respect. Plenty of people of all races routinely leave the trash cans overflowing on summer weekends. But at least they try to get the trash to the trash cans. If someone came and shat all over your neighborhood, I think you’d be pretty angry too, regardless of what color the violators were.
It’s called a BBQ, I can’t understand the real issue! There was not a bunch of noise late into the night because there are no LIGHTS on the lawn and music was turned off at sundown! There have been plenty events held at the park that have ended later and yeilded a lot more people and trash then this one annual event. I am not sure if you are 80 and your bedtime is 9 but it’s still the city that never sleeps
I’m looking forward to this event. I understand that there will be a clean up crew and from my experience many of the events at Prospect Park are noisy…so I don’t know why this one is “singled out”…It’s a bbq that ends at sundown. If individuals stay later, that is their personal decision.
Anyhow, I hope everyone will have fun on Sunday. I hope the newspapers are on scene to document an event that supports culture and friendship, not just to search for violations.

So much uproar.. why? The park was cleaned immediately after the event. The park belongs to Brooklyn, not pretentious Park Slope residents. Do Black Males ages 19 – 30 scare you that much?
you are crazy jay. there was more trash left at last years party then at ANY event in years. it was like hurrican katrina in park slope. this is not a black white issue this is an environmental issue that effects every single person who uses brooklyns beautiful park. why turn it into something that it isn’t? no one cares that you have a party and noone cares that you bbq. everyone cares that the meadow was left totally trashed because all the folks that attended were too god damn selfish to carry their garbage out of the park. anywhere else in america there’s a bring it in bring it out policy….use it today……….
Everyone heading to Prospect Park for good times today, Keep in mind that there will be fake ass Brooklynites from Park Slope that have NOTHING better to do with their lives than blog about their fake utopian neighborhood ready to complain! These posers think they OWN the park and to a certain extent Brooklyn. You know them, they call it “the slope” and have dogs named Brooklyn, they think they are so “hip” liberal and down because they voted for Obama… Well they can’t wait for something to go wrong so keep it peaceful, classy and clean!
O.k I got to chime in. How dare u transient newly gentrified 40ish couples with your new in-vitro babies complain about a black bbq in prospect park. Maybe your not aware of the fact that parkslope just 12 to 15 yrs ago was a predominantly SPANISH AND BLACK neighborhood. N 20 yrs ago your precious 7th avenue was a predominantly Caribbean area. So u don’t have the right to call a neighborhood or a park your own till you’ve lived there at least 10 to 15 yrs or longer. N I don’t see you complaining about all the white married men and parkslope residents who used that same park as gay cruising area at night time. Leaving their nasty used condoms and rappers all over the foot paths. So if you don’t like the one time of year when blacks take back a park they grew up going to. Then do us all a favor and go back to upper middle class Illinois or northern Virginia or Washington state. Or wherever the fuck you $2000 stroller pushing, Jamaican nannies having, Starbucks seat occupying for hours, thrust-fund brat, parents paying for half of your rent, and funded your businesses, smiling in our faces and calling are kids cut to just so you don’t look racist even though u pushed most of us out of our neighborhood asses back to where you came from O.k. The only black people they are ok with are black men with dreads (you know, the one all the white women are trying to sleep with) working at the co-op and pushing around their mixed babies and their west indian nannies pushing around their brats all day because they don’t know how to be parents. When those brats grow up and reach their mid twenties they are all going to self destruct when they figure out their false delusional sense of entitlement won’t get them everything in life. Most of these “bloggers” in park slope are unemployed losers sitting in the Tea Lounge pretending do be doing something useful with their time. When these fools arrived from the midwest and starting paying $2000 for a studio apt they ruined real estate as we know it in Brooklyn.
