Acclaimed director Guy Ritchie burst on the scene in 1998 with the hugely successful Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels and effectively revolutionized the British crime movie genre. Over the span of his career, Ritchie has served as pioneer for his untraditional method of storytelling, directing three more crime dramas(Snatch, Revolver, and most recently RockNRolla) and in the process, inspiring countless imitators. But, more resonating than Ritchie’s subplots and catchy endings, are the eclectic musical decisions that drive both the action and the multiple plot lines of the films. Ranging from classic soul to hard-hitting drum and base, Ritchie’s scores utilize a mix of old and new classics, serving as backdrop for complex stories of heists, cons and stick-ups. It was these vivid backdrops that inspired award winning New York City DJ, DJ Elle to put together her own heist soundtrack, mixed from her favorite tracks from Guy Ritchie’s crime movies.
