Come to Harriet’s Alter Ego for the Opening Reception for Artist, Tanekya Word. Tanekeya Word has taken pop art to high fashion runway status with her striking “Donne Di lusso” series; a confident line of artwork hailed as the meeting of pop art and Vogue couture. Her “Donne Di lusso” paintings — meaning luxury women in Italian — celebrates the woman but parodies the concept of femininity based on societal standards of beauty, which stereotypically overwhelm females — young and old alike — with feelings of inadequacy and low self-worth as they aspire to these often unrealistic levels of perceived beauty.
